General Discussion / I dreamed last night...
« Last post by zzzptm on November 17, 2019, 02:39:31 PM »
... that I was tapped to step in and be Pearce High School's AcDec coach. Didn't get the full details why there was an emergency coach shortage, but I stepped up and arranged my work schedule to accommodate at least through to state.

I think seeing news stories about Colin Kapernick coming back made me have that dream...

Competitions and Scores / Re: 3rd Annual Irving ISD Invitational

Looks like Hebron won the Irving meet followed by Marcus, Nimitz, Irving, TCHS (not sure who that is - I'm getting these results from a tweet), Centennial, Summit, Heritage, Reedy? (can't read the handwriting of the tweet - it looks like a Reedy?) and Arlington Martin.  Don't know what the scores were.  It looks like scores are slower this year about being reported.  We've still never seen final scores from Friendswood, for example, two weeks ago, except for Lebanon Trails which was 3rd at 29,245.70 (behind Pearland and Friendswood who I believe were also both in the 29,000s?) and Pasadena Memorial which was 8th at 24,480.

Garland ISD also has their district competition this Saturday, as well. Richardson ISD usually has theirs a week before Thanksgiving.

It's that time of the year again! Shouldn't we be seeing LAUSD and LA County scores by this time? ???

General Discussion / London Fun
« Last post by zzzptm on November 04, 2019, 02:16:45 PM »
Here on business, but I had two days to play before the meetings start.

Where did I go? To the British Museum yesterday and the Imperial War Museum today.

As I viewed the big jade snake that was one of the Art pieces from the Mexico year, I wind up commenting on a question I heard a young person ask... "Are those real teeth in that thing?" Yes they were, because Aztecs. Had about a 15-minute conversation with the mom and her two kids about the Aztec artifacts on display. Great fun.

Today was even more of a fun time for me. About 20 different school groups were going through the museum today, and I got to hold court all over the WW2 and WW1 displays. Kids were all trying to answer questions on their papers, but I didn't give 'em away. "I used to teach, so you're going to learn something in exchange for that answer!" :)

So, yeah, that's a vacation for me... answering history questions in museums! I absolutely loved it.  :smug:

Competitions and Scores / Re: DECATHAPALOOZA 2019 - Rockwall

Rockwall meet went well. Got scoring done in record time with about 500 students thanks to Yetman.

HP was first, PESH was second, Heath third, CDO fourth, Rockwall 5th.

Everything went well except for the fact that somebody, and i won’t name names, but SOMEBODY copied the Econ Level Hard test instead of the Easy test (Oops.) so I think out meet scores are a bit deflated.

Highland Park was missing their two top varsities, and CDO was missing its top varsity. Pesky grades!

Well, have them take the tests and see how that affects the scores... :smug:
