Which themes do you like best?

Geographic or conceptual?

If I have to choose, I go with geographic. Those are the ones I've used the most in real life, as it were. :) And of them, it's the Art, Music, and History that provided the most benefits. Lang&Lit is nice, but those works are more point-in-time comments, while the art and music remain relevant in popular culture.

Science is always fun, and I don't think that it necessarily has to be linked to the theme, but it helps when it does. Great Depression with geology, for example, was perfect. But if there's no big connection, there shouldn't be an attempt to force one.

Economics and Math can pretty much be the same every year or on a 4-year repeating cycle and I don't think anyone would care if they were theme-linked or not.

Not certain if your question is rhetorical, but I haven't been at this long enough to categorize. I really liked Africa but India, not so much. I don't even recall the theme prior to India. I really enjoyed WWII and 60's,  but this year is a bit hard for me to get excited about. I tend to think the economics is more relevent this year, though. I wish the resource guides would be a bit more interesting with the math sections. I would like to see the math tests complement science a bit more like the way the social science and literature complement one another.
I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by.

When I competed in 85-86, the superquiz topic was "immigration" and that was before there was a tighter integration with the rest of the curriculum, so it was meh. History was WW2, literature was Cry, the Beloved Country, and art was (I think) Primitivism.

When I was coaching, my first year 03-04 was Lewis and Clark for history/SQ. Science was Botany. We had to stop playing the Ken Burns L&C documentary because we ALL kept falling asleep during it.

04-05 was "Ancient World" and was pretty much forgettable. I had to look it up to see what the specifics were.

05-06 was Renaissance, that was more fun. Still too general for my taste.

06-07 was China, and I absolutely loved that year, in spite of the Chinese Opera song in music, lolz. Civil War and Mexico followed and both of those I consider to be regional topics instead of general period topics. Civil War *does* go with a period, but also a region, so it's tight enough to be properly digestible. French Revolution followed and then Great Depression, which, like the Civil War, were focused enough to be another pair of great years.

Imperialism disappointed me, but Russia came back to win my heart. Great fun with that topic.

And then I went back to private industry, so I leave off there.
