WOW

OK, so that makes getting the band together that much easier, with the low end of Scholastics now landing into Varsity range. About time, I'd say.

Sigh. I did what I could to stop this from happening, but it seems like this is what the majority of the coaches across the country wanted.

I generally went off of PSAT scores for recruiting, so I'd still go after the deep varsities with amazing scores. But if I had this in place when I was coaching, It would have fundamentally altered my team membership, and I would have had stronger overall teams. So would the other schools, in terms of points, but I'm also considering dynamics, personal connections, and such. There were some people that I had to cut that just broke my heart and nearly all of them were in the "just a tenth of a point GPA lower, and..." category.

I tend to be in the minority with Sebastian. Being a small-school coach, I supposed it might benefit small schools a bit moreso that larger one, but isn't it just going to inflate scores a bit, globally? I hope it might bring a few more schools into the competition, but time will tell.

I definitely see both sides of this. Recruiting will be easier, for sure.  But just looking at my team this year, THREE of my four scholastics who made the team would have been varsity instead.  A couple of my current varsities would not have made the team, and the amount of growth in confidence I have seen in them probably wouldn't have happened.  Also, would those three kids be putting in the same effort?  Knowing that they "only" had to put up varsity-level scores instead of competing with other scholastics, I don't think they would have worked as hard.

I'm surprised they made as big of a jump as they did.  I thought 3.1 would have been more reasonable than going with 3.2.

I think the flipside is that "only" varsity will fade fast. Scores overall should climb and approach the limit of 60K.
